Uji Shin Cha

"Hachi Juu Hachi Yoru Cha Tsumi no Tsudoi"            May 2nd, 2010

Anybody interested in picking tea leaves? This is a fabulous event in Uji, the Mecca of Japanese tea. This is the symbolic first tea leaf picking of the year festival. There will be two different venues set up. Each venue is a little different, but basically you can try picking tea leaves, learn how to make Japanese tea the right way, and try your hand at "te momi", which is an important part of the production process where you knead the tea leaves with your hands. The event is free of charge. There will be a free shuttle bus running in between Keihan and JR Uji Stations and the venues. The event runs from 10 am until 3pm. For more information, check out the Uji Cha Association website: http://www.ujicha.or.jp or call 0774-23-7713. Japanese only. It only happens once a year, so if you can, make a trip out to Uji and learn something about the wonderful world of Japanese tea!
