The Tatami Room Tours and Events

Please join our walking tour for a leisurely walk through the beautiful streets of Fushimi. You will see old houses, shrines, sake breweries, and old shopping arcades. You will visit the excellent Okura Kinenkan Sake Museum. During the brewing season (November - March), you will get inside the Kura (brewery) and see firsthand how sake is made. You will meet local people and interact with them at their small shops selling traditional Japanese products such as tatami, tea, konbu (kelp), kimono, wagashi (Japanese sweets) and fish.

When?: The tour walks on Mondays and Fridays. The tour starts at 10:00 a.m. and ends around 1:00 p.m. Please note: There are NO walks on Japanese National Holidays. Please check a Japanese calendar if you are not sure. We will try to post on this site when the walk isn't going to be held.

Meeting Place?: Please meet us at the North exit of the Keihan Line Chushojima Station. We will be standing outside the ticket gates. Please try to be on time!

How do I Join?: Please send an email to: info@thetatamiroom.com. We will send you a confirmation email.  You may also call our mobile phone at  070-5430-9895 to reserve a place on the tour.

How Much is the Tour?: The cost is 2,000 Japanese Yen per person. Please pay in cash to the tour navigator on the day of the tour. (Please note: transportation fees and entrance into the sake museum are extra) Children under 11 may join the tour for free. (Please note: the 2,000 Japanese Yen  fee does not include insurance. We are not responsible for any accidents that occur before, during, or after the tour).

Who is the navigator Hi! My name is Jason. I am originally from the United States but have lived in Japan for the past 10 years. I am a long-time resident of Fushimi and want to share with you all of the wonderful experiences I have living here in Fushimi. I am not a licensed guide, just a guy who really likes Fushimi. In Japan, obtaining a license to be a "tour guide" is extremely difficult. Whenever possible, I do try to have a licensed-guide come and help with the tour. Come and walk with us. I hope you find Fushimi to be as fascinating as I do!
