Fushimi is
one of the 11 wards in Kyoto City. It is located to the south of
Kyoto City. It actually was its own town before becoming a ward of
Kyoto City in 1929. Fushimi
has got to be the best kept secret in Kyoto. Located just a 10
minute train ride from downtown Kyoto, it offers a lot of the same
opportunities for sightseeing without having to rub shoulders with
hoards of other tourists. Historically and culturally, there
are so many interesting things to be discovered in Fushimi. Despite this fact, it hardly gets the attention it
deserves. One of the best things about Fushimi is its walkability.
Most of the great places Fushimi has to offer are located within
walking distance of each other. The other great thing about
Fushimi is its people. They offer a nice contrast to the politeness
of the people of Kyoto City. The people in Fushimi are friendly and
don't mince their words. They like to talk if you get them started
about the history of Fushimi or the best sake in town.
